The story of Tombigbee Tales began in September of 2023 when an intrepid truth-seeker and spirited local, decided to hit “record” on her mic and tell the story behind the story. But this wasn’t just any story—it was an exposé on the eroding pillars of journalistic integrity and the murky waters of local politics in Columbus, Mississippi. Shannon Evans was on a mission: to shine a light on the corruption and sweep out the rot festering in the shadows. With determination and an innate talent for investigation, she has vowed to restore the truth to its rightful place.

Shannon Broocks Evans, a proud 6th-generation Mississippian, is your go-to public historian and researcher. When she is not digging through dusty archives or wandering through cemeteries, She can be found whooping ass at pickleball.

She has a knack for uncovering the quirkiest stories from Mississippi’s past, whether it’s the legend of the haunted courthouse or that time a chicken ran for mayor (true story).
